Major Music: The Carter III, The Review

So we thought it would be interesting for DCBG and Major Music to review the Carter III album. Major is an avid Old Hov fan and DCBG fux wit Wayne, so already there is some bias. Read the reviews and feel free to add your own in the comments section.
Major's Review:

"The self proclaimed best rapper alive finally released his third installment of the Tha Carter series. This album is a good album for many rappers and better than most mixtape legends album attempts, but if you’re going to call yourself the best you must consistently deliver. Lil Wayne's album is full of the best producers from Alchemist to Kanye West and even features artist such as the Jay-z aka his idol, T-pain, Fabolous, Busta Rhymes and Robin Thicke

Weezy starts off the album with a lot of energy and swag with the 1st three tracks (even though the 1st track sounds a lot like his popular song  I'm me. Then the flow of the album is disturbed by that huff track “Got Money” which features T-pain, and this has to be the most annoying song on the album besides “Phone Home.” I don’t know what he was attempting to do with that song (phone home). It seems like Weezy is trying to hard to be different and his creativity could be perceived as wack and that will be the downfall of this album.

Like I stated previously this is a good album but if you're going to be the best you can’t get out shined on your own album. Lyrically Lil Wayne could not keep up with Fabolous on “You aint got Nuthin”, Busta Rhymes on “La La”, and Jay-z on “Mr.Carter.” Maybe Lil Wayne got used to taking the backseat, since he was featured on over 70 songs since last year haha. Lil Wayne makes up for the lack of lyrical content with swag and the great production on the album. Tha Carter III is full of Lil Wayne’s creative mindset...especially his huff guitar solo at the end of the song “Shoot me Down” haha, but all jokes aside this will definitely be his biggest album to date but it’s not a classic, just a good album. "

DCBG's Review:
Best Rapper alive since the best rapper was FIRED! Major, Major, Major you surprise me my friend...I thought your vision was 20/20, I thought you could see greatness! Clearly I miscalculated in my assumptions. This album is Crack, a classic Crack album...Wayne really mixed things up. Besides showing people he could flow about more than jewels and drugs, he displayed his artistic lyrical ability by effortlessly creating MUSIC. Not tracks, or hot songs, but just pure music. The first track is energetic as Wayne wants to bring you into his III'rd world with a banger. From then on he takes you on a roller coaster where the ups are just as good as the downs. Songs like "Millie" which are full of energy and swagger are followed by deep introspective tracks like Dr. Carter. You have to really listen to his music to grasp how deep his thought process. Dr. Carter essentially is Lil Wayne saving hip-hop, he gets three attempts each representing his first, second, and third albums. Third time was is a charm...listen:

A lot of people get confused when determining if something is different or unique. Wayne's "Phone Home", "Playing With Fire" and "Shoot Me Down" are unique in many ways. Besides the beats being OD chill and laid back, they are murdered by his lyrics. It's these type of songs that show Wayne growth and maturity as an artist.

It's funny when you think about it...all these people hating on Wayne saying Old Hov is better or Wayne just aint sh*t...don't you people realize that these very artist (Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West) are advocates for Weezy! Old Hov was quoted saying "Lil Wayne is the heir to the throne" and Diddy already labeled Carter III a classic album!

To stay unbiased I have to admit I had already heard a few verses. Some of the songs I was surprised he used on this album. Even thought they are crack songs, I expected entirely new material. So that was a little bit of a let down. He made up for this factor by using completely new beats, and even adding a verse or too. Lyrically it is impossible to outshine Wayne on any verse...hands down. Old Hov came off on Dr. Carter, but listen to the damn lyrics...he's lyrically handing over the torch to Wayne! This is a classic album, one you can listen to all the way through. Listen to the lyrical content not the hype. Oh yea the T-pain was kinda huff.

DCBG's Favorite Tracks:
- 3 peat
- A Millie
- Dr. Carter
- Phone Home - "I am an alien like Gonzales"
- Let The Beat Build - superior lyrical maneuverability
- Don't Get It - Besides a dope sample, you can relate to this joint...he rips Al Sharpton too
- Comfortable
- Playing With Fire - heart felt
- Mr. Carter
- La La - Wayne and Busta? Superb collabo
- You Aint Got Nothing - Fab was lucky to get on this track, Wayne killed it

At the end of the day, only you can prevent forest fires...leave your review!

  3. Hov huffed him first, then didn't pass the torch. He jus said its your turn to prove yourself cuz I've already proved myself . . . "Boom, the Roc Boy is in the room, the Dope Boy just left the spoon" was the huff "I took so much change from this game now its your turn" meaning he ain't do what Hov did to the game yet so its your turn to try . . . I call that politely putting someone in their place. And on some bars he tries to hard but for Wayne die hard fans, that may be the reason you like him so I ain't hatin, just opinionatin (If thats a word, haha)
