The companies said they will make Google the default search on DoCoMo phones and offer mobile versions of Google's map, e-mail and YouTube services. DoCoMo said also that it is considering offering phones based on Android, a mobile platform being developed by Google.

Google's lucrative advertising network has long powered its profits in the U.S., but the company is a relative latecomer to the Japanese Internet scene, which - apart from the search segment - is largely dominated by Yahoo Japan Corp. Expect DoCoMo stocks to jump on further speculation of this merger.
