Cut&Paste 2009 Digital Design, Another 55DSL Classic

55DSL is a proud global sponsor of Cut&Paste’s 2009 Digital Design Tournament. Cut&Paste, an innovative design company, is looking for talented designers to represent their city in two fast-paced, single-elimination rounds in 3D and one round for Motion, each with a unique design theme and set time limit. The annual global tournament is set to zip across 16 cities this year, from February through June 2009, and this year for the first time ever, all of the winners (that’s all 48 of them) will be thrown together for the first-ever GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP. You win your city, and they'll fly you to New York to go up against the world! So of course we are holding down our New York family...let's get it!

Cut&Paste is challenging designers from various backgrounds and nations across the map to dig deep and design their way into the spotlight. The annual Call for Competitors is now open, with two deadlines: January 14 for cities in North America, and February 6 for the Europe and Asia/Pacific regions. teleport for complete info

Calling digital designers the world over: Cut&Paste wants YOU for its annual global Digital Design Tournament. Over the course of four months in 2009, the international tournament series will challenge designers from all backgrounds and nations across the map to dig deep and design their way into the spotlight. Cut&Paste will accomplish its core mission of establishing a global community of designers through the design-as-spectator-sport approach it brings to its live competitions in 2D, 3D, and motion design. The Call for Competitors opens to the public December 02, 2008 at www.cutandpaste.com.

Entries will be reviewed based on quality of portfolios, and potential competitors will be invited to a 15-minute “test round” in hopes of making it through to the live city tournaments. If selected, North American designers will compete across the continent in Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco, Toronto, New York City, Boston, or Chicago beginning in February 2009. European competitors will compete in subsequent months in London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona, and Milan, after which Cut&Paste will bring its tour to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Sydney. Three winners from each city—forty-eight winners in all—will converge in New York City in June 2009 for the first-ever Cut&Paste Global Championship. One Grand Prize winner from each category in each city (48 in total) will receive an expenses-paid trip to New York City for the Global Championships. (For a complete list of prizes, visit www.cutandpaste.com/tours/program/formats.)

"We're excited for the addition of 3D and Motion Design to our traditional 2D tournament—our local teams can't wait for the submissions to roll in," said John Fiorelli, Founder of Cut&Paste. "It's my hope that our audiences - whether fans of 2D, 3D, or Motion - will walk away inspired with a better understanding of these growing disciplines."

In addition to the new competitions, Cut&Paste is rounding out this year’s highly interactive tournament program with the introduction of its Show&Tell series, as well as its ever-popular Audience Design Contests that will allow event-goers to get a taste of what a global design competition is all about. The Show&Tell sessions featured at each city event will create a casual, dynamic setting where designers can share inspiration, experiences, and ideas with the Cut&Paste crowd through live demonstrations and creative presentations. Further details are available on the website, and submissions to Show&Tell can be entered online during the Call for Competitors period.

Cut&Paste’s 2009 Digital Design Tournament is supported by its sponsors and partners: Autodesk, the official Global 3D Software Partner; Wacom, provider of pen-based displays and tablets used during onstage competitions; Pantone The global authority on color will provide its latest design tools to aid in color exploration and specification for the competitions; and 55DSL—an urban streetwear line with roots in snow, surf and skate—who will be providing the Global 2D Design Grand Prize.

Cut&Paste’s Global Media Partners include IdN Magazine, Motionographer, and Computer Arts Magazine. Regional Media Partners include Stash Magazine, Going, and Wired Magazine.

Cut&Paste’s first live digital design tournament was a single competition in New York City in 2005. Since then, Cut&Paste has increased the number of participating cities each year. With the introduction of the 3D and motion design competitions, 2009 is expected to draw both creatives and spectators in record numbers.
