"Most of the people that e-file, they do it early because they've got a refund coming, most of the people that wait till today are people that owe the department money," explained David Griffith, Missouri Department of Revenue.
But relying on the old stamp and envelope method of submitting taxes could be risky - not Fedex, not DHL, not even UPS.Missing Tuesday night's tax deadline can get you a five percent penalty on whatever you owe to the government. Since you would rather be getting money back from the government, the Department of Revenue suggests using an e-file program because it can get tax refunds in an average of less than three days.
