Following fashion week was the official kick-off to fall fashion, as buyers gathered together in NYC and Vegas for the biggest trade shows of the year, Magic and Coterie. Retailers pulled out all the stops in an effort to boost morale within the industry’s recent slump in sales over the past 4 months.
Though this year’s Coterie didn’t allow for customized booths, Rock & Republic, True Religion & Juicy Couture [whose booths are always crack] managed to make up for the lack in visual creativity. Rock & Republic had a personal DJ accompanied with plasma screens showing their fall fashion show and Juicy kept it's cool image by making their booth out to be a night club, complete with a bouncer and all. Also seen bumpin around the show in NY were Project Runway alums, Kara Janx [who’s line of flirty party dresses are definitely showing up in my closet], Kevin Christensen, and season 3 winner Jeffery Sebelia, who showcased his Costra Nostra line.
Downside? The overall undertone felt among brands resonates the feeling in the stores-lack of sales. “The Big Show” was a ghost town for US buyers, whom due to a poor fall & pre-spring season are scared to do the numbers their used to. Help them out by going out and supporting your favorite brands!!
