Usain Bolt: The Fastest Of All Time vs. Rastio Lyool: Track Speed

This weekend we witnessed history as Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt captured the the 100 meter title at the Olympics and broke his previous world record. Jamaicans all over the world are celebrating the first victory in the Olympics by a male competitor since the great Donald Quarrie won gold at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Bolt cruised to the finish line all thanks to his diet consisting of the infamous Trelawny yellow yam from his hometown and genetically enhanced ackee and saltfish. Less than 24 hours later we witnessed history once again as his teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser led the way for team Jamaica as they swept the 100 meters and left the United States in the dust once again. With several sprint events left my country looks to continue their domination and Bolt looks to capture the sprint double in the 100 and 200 meters similar to Carl Lewis in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Washington Kastles DC Tennis

DC has another home team, enter the Washington Kastles. The team is a combination of some of the best players in the league. Eight-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will play for the new Washington Kastles during the 2008 World TeamTennis Pro League season.According to the Kastles, the D.C. franchise of the league was co-founded in 1974 by tennis legend Billie Jean King. Williams will play one home match and three away matches. She is expected to play both singles and doubles. Yesterday an EF fan had box seats and took a nice camera shot of the recent doubles winner. Peep Serena...in all her glory, helping the kids and giving a few lessons of course.

This is a good look for DC. Those that live here know how our city is transforming, it's a little OD but at least we have some new attractions and teams. Oh yea, Common is a lucky dude!

2008 USA Men's Basketball Squad

A Nike event took place this morning at the NY Rockefeller Center Ice Rink as USA Basketball unveiled its 2008 Men’s National Team for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Beijing. Nike sponsored sponsored the event, hosted by TV personality Kevin Frazier with music by DJ Clark Kent. With Nike as a sponsor you know the event was dope, there were entertainment features from b-boys to an Olympic team quiz. The event also introduced the new uniforms for both Men’s and Women’s teams, crafted from the new Nike Swift System of Dress, in which there is a 31% weight reduction compared to previous uniforms. Some team members will also be wearing the new Nike Hyperdunk in USA colorways. The footwear will be made available to the general consumers on July 26th. World Record...Track Speed!

There comes a time in every guys life when they need to use track speed. Usually this reserve speed is used when you see the girl from last weekend, or...see the feds. But when you need to be out...track speed and you're gone! Here's a prime example of track speed, literally. It's Rastio's broham. Usain Bolt of Jamaica yesterday set a new world record in the men`s 100-meter dash, shortening the previous mark by 0.02 seconds.

At the Reebok Grand Prix in New York, Bolt enjoyed prime conditions for racing, including a tailwind of 1.7 meters per second. Fellow Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell had set the record of 9.74 seconds about eight months ago.

Capitals Are Doing Big Things

In front a sold-out Verizon center, the Capitals finished off the regular season with a story book ending; an unlikely trip to the playoffs and a division title. Led by arguably the greatest player in hockey today, Alexander Ovechkin, the Caps had to win 7 straight games and 11 of their last 12 in order to reach the playoffs for the first time in five years.

After firing head coach Glen Hanlon on Thanksgiving Day, Bruce Boudreau took over a team that with a record of 6-14-1 was easily the worst in the NHL. Boudreau completely changed the personality of the team into an up-tempo attacking style that highlights the skills of the youthful roster as well as the NHL's most outstanding scorer, Ovechkin. The Caps went on a 4 ½ month run to go from worst in the NHL to Southeast Division champs.

As the hottest team in the NHL, no one is looking forward to facing the Capitals in the playoffs, especially not the Philadelphia Flyers who the Caps will face-off against in the first round. With the way they have been playing down the stretch in order just to make the playoffs, the Caps have transformed themselves into legitimate contenders and could be hoisting the Stanley Cup when everything is said and done.

Nationals Win In New Stadium!

Opening Night for MLB 2008 began in dramatic fashion. The Washington Nationals broke in their new stadium, described by MLB commissioner Bud Selig as a "baseball cathedral," officially finalizing baseball's return to our nation's capital. With plenty of pomp and circumstance, Nationals Park was given a memorable debut as the hometown Nats faced off against the division rival Braves. The Nats started things off with a 2-run lead after the first inning. The Braves tightened the score to 2-1 with a solo homerun from Chipper Jones, and then evened the score in the top of the 9^th inning off of a passed ball. Just when Nats fans thought this game could turn into a long night, Ryan Zimmerman stepped up to the plate. With two outs left, the face of the franchise drove the ball deep into centerfield and out of the park for a walk-off homerun to end the game and give the Nationals the first win in their new stadium. The Nats gave their fans a debut that, as manager Manny Acta described, "couldn't have been scripted any better."
