Fashion Sense: Spring Trends

At the beginning of every season, fashion magazines are full of ‘What to Buy NOW!” so that you are always in style. However, any true fashionista knows to stick to a uniform and just update seasonally with accessories or a slight silhouette change. With any overtly trendy pieces, one to two is okay; if you find yourself wearing three things that could be found at any H&M or Forever 21- beware. It’s easy to become a fashion victim without even noticing. Coco Chanel always advised to take off one thing before leaving the house as to ensure you’re not wearing too much!

That all being said, here is my abbreviated list of fun spring trends to try, just remember…one at a time!

Superbrights: Neon and bright colors are back in full force to welcome the warm weather (Spring, where are you? I’m ready for warm!). Burberry has a Neon neoprene version of their classic trench, but I would recommend keeping the super bright colors as accent pieces for now. Prominently incorporating bright colors into your wardrobe in a fun way to welcome the warm weather (once it finalllllllly arrives).

Safari-inspired: Can be found most often in jackets, structured shorts and dresses. The good thing about this trend is that khaki, army and olive green; and other neutrals found in this color palate are good colors for just about any skin tone. The secret to finding a good color for your skin is when your cheeks have a rosy glow while wearing it.

Florals: Are everywhere for Spring, and in everything from dresses to accessories to shoes. Just be sure to pair floral prints with a neutral or masculine piece if you don’t want to feel like Laura Ashley.

That’s all for now-
Good luck in spring shopping!

Fashion Sense: House of Holland

I love House of Holland: day-glo colors, t-shirts with slogans that are fashion-insider-jokes, and finally, Henry Holland’s first ready-to-wear line, to be available this spring with Axl Rose-inspired patterns.

Henry Holland is a British designer with a sense of humor. Brightly colored and with slogans that encompass the entire front, it’s impossible to miss his t-shirts directed at fashion insiders, models, and designers.

Currently available are two collections: One Trick Pony and Fashion Groupies, with Stephanie & Axl shown as coming soon.

In One Trick Pony, you can find shirts that say:
FLICK YER BEAN FOR AGYNESS DEYN
Pronounced de-eyn, Agyness is a top model currently booked in Georgio Armani and Burberry campaigns, who actually models all of the t-shirts on the House of Holland website; her name is synonymous with British cool.

I’LL SHOW YOU WHO’S BOSS KATE MOSS
Kate Moss is a legend: ex-girlfriend of Babyshambles Pete Dougherty, currently seeing The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince and with modeling campaigns of her own in addition to collections for the infamous British TopShop.

WHAM BAM THANKYOU STAM.
Jessica Stam is a top Canadian model who is probably best known outside of the fashion world as the inspiration and name behind Marc Jacob’s classic bag style, the Stam.

His Fashion Groupies collection boasts shirts with sayings such as:
DO ME IN THE PARK MARC
Marc Jacobs we all know and love; this shirt alludes to Bryant Park and Fashion Week.
and

UHU GARETH PUGH.
Gareth Pugh is one of my favorite British designers, and while he and Henry Holland are friends (not to mention contemporaries), his style is the other extreme from Henry Holland. We’ll save that for another day.
